Rajah & Tann Singapore has contributed an article titled “Registration and Enforcement of ICSID Awards in Singapore” in the March 2026 issue of the ThoughtLeaders4 Disputes Magazine.

In recent years, Singapore has become an increasingly important hub and seat for international arbitration. Singapore is also a financial centre of global significance. Against this backdrop, and with Singapore being a party to the Convention on the Settlement of Investment Disputes between States and Nationals of Other States, there has been a growing number of applications to register and enforce International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (“ICSID”) arbitration awards in Singapore.

Authored by Partner Matthew Koh from the International Arbitration Practice, the article provides an overview of the process for registering and enforcing ICSID arbitration awards in Singapore. It then explores some potential procedural pitfalls that award creditors should keep in mind when seeking registration and enforcement. The rising number of applications to register and enforce ICSID awards is likely to give the Singapore courts more opportunities to consider the procedural hurdles discussed in the article and eventually provide clearer guidance.
